All I Want for Christmas…

“Dad, you are really hard to buy for.” I often hear this refrain so I thought I would put a couple of suggestions out there.

headphonesSince our computer and TV are in the same room there are often times when the sound conflicts. To solve that problem a set of computer headphones would seem to be in order. This pair, found on Over Stock.com, would seem to solve the problem. I need them to be hard wired (not wireless) and the built in mike would be nice when and if any of my daughters get their web cams up and running.

tripodThere are times when a tripod for my camera would be nice.  Especially when taking group shots and I would like to be in them. One like this can be found at Kodak.com. I would also use it for taking shots that require a slow shutter speed like at night. I have looked at other brand name tripods but am unsure whether the mount would be compatible. (See Cal’s comments about tripod mounts.)

gps2A group gift might be a GPS system for the car.  Don’t know too much about these but I definitely would want one that speaks the street names.  Mom and I would use this when traveling to North Carolina (to find motels, restaurants, etc.) and this coming summer when we make our way to Florida.  I’m a gadget guy and the prices are way down on this technology so it’s probably time to get one.

A new dress belt (reversible, size 36 – yes, the waste line is expanding), pull over collared knit shirts (for winter) and a pair of slippers round out my wish list.

The tripod mount on the bottom of your camera is universal. Most tripods use a quick release plate for quick and easy attachment — the plate attaches to the bottom of the camera.

I thought that was the case but saw this spec: “3 mm standard tripod mount” on a tripod on Overstock.com” and then saw this spec: “Tripod mount – 1/4 in. standard” on the Kodak site for my camera. On my trusty metric to English converter, .25″ equates to 6.35 mm so I became confused. The spec on the Overstock.com item must be a misprint. Thanks for the heads up. It will make shopping easier for this item.

  3. Cal says:

A common tripod mount uses a 1/4″ post.

I must say that I am extremely jealous that you post a list like this! I wish my parents would do the same cause they too are hard to buy for!
